Festeggiamenti in onore di Maria SS dei Miracoli e SS Crocifisso – 2016 – Giuseppe Pipia

Dopo 5 anni dal mio ultimo video sulla festa in onore dei protettori di Caltabellotta, Maria SS dei Miracoli e SS Crocifisso, era necessario un aggiornamento con tante novità. In primis una nuova telecamera che mi permetterà di realizzare un video completo sulle tradizioni e la storia che esistono dietro i festeggiamenti nella loro forma attuale. Questa telecamera è stata acquistata grazie ad un contributo del Comitato organizzatore dei festeggiamenti, presieduto da Liborio Truncali.

Iniziamo con il primissimo video, realizzato interamente con una telecamera GoPro Hero3. Il video riguarda la salita del fercolo del SS Crocifisso in una visuale mai vista prima, e cioè dal punto di vista del Crocifisso. Un evento emozionante reso ancora più unico da questo punto di vista: infatti è come se camminassimo a fianco di Cristo.

Il secondo video riguarda la salita di Maria SS dei Miracoli in una visuale mai vista prima e questa volta visto nella visuale della Madonna stessa, camminando insieme a lei.

Il terzo ed ultimo video, più corposo il film-documentario sulla festa, dalle sue origini a come è oggi. Ringrazio tutti coloro che mi hanno dato una mano nel realizzarlo, senza i quali non avrei raggiunto il risultato voluto. Il video vuole raccogliere tutte le storie e le tradizioni della festa che i caltabellottesi tramandano a voce, ma che difficilmente si trovano sul web. Non è un video finale, bensì vuole scaturire in chi lo guarderà la curiosità e la voglia di scoprire una storia secolare e di volerla attendere. Per i più intraprendenti, inoltre, vuole dare lo spunto per ulteriori ricerche per approfondire la verità storica di cui apparentemente non c’è traccia. Buona visione.

Caltabellotta, piccolo comune montano della provincia di Agrigento, in Sicilia, si prepara alla festa in onore di Maria SS dei Miracoli e del SS Crocifisso. Caltabellotta, small mountain town in the province of Agrigento, in Sicily, is ready to celebrate the feast in honor of Most Holy Mary of Miracles and the Crucifix.

Come vuole la tradizione, la domenica precedente la festa, il Crocifisso, sulla cosidetta “vara”, viene portato a spalla dai fedeli dalla Chiesa di Sant’Agostino alla Cattedrale, dove si pensa fosse originariamente. As told by the tradition, on the former Sunday of the main feast, the statue of the Crucifix, on the so called “vara”, is carried by the naked shoulders of the devoted men from the church of Saint’Augustin to the Cathedral, where it is thought the Statue was originally.

Il Crocifisso viene posto, momentaneamente, sull’altare maggiore, di fronte il simulacro della Madonna della Neve, nella Cattedrale di Caltabellotta. Presto, però, ritornerà al suo posto accanto al simulacro di Maria SS dei Miracoli. The Crucifix is momentarily placed on the main altar, in front of the statue of the Madonna of the Snow, in the Cathedral of Caltabellotta. Soon, however, it will go back on the side of the statue of Mary of Miracles.

Nel 1953, a Siracusa, una riproduzione in gesso della Madonna lacrimò. Le lacrime furono riconosciute dalla Chiesa Cattolica e da allora sono custodite in questo reliquiario, che, durante i festeggiamenti in onore di Maria SS dei Miracoli e del SS Crocifisso, ha fatto visita a Caltabellotta. In 1953, in Syracuse, a small plaster reproduction of the Madonna cried. The tears were officially recognized by the Catholic Church and ever since preserved in this reliquary that visited Caltabellotta, during the celebrations in honor of Mary of Miracles and the Crucifix.

Il Crocifisso ritorna alla Chiesa di Sant’Agostino insieme al reliquiario della Madonna delle Lacrime, ed i fedeli. The Crucifix comes back to the Church of Saint Augustine with the reliquiary of the Madonna of Tears, together with the believers.

Uno dei tanti appuntamenti di intrattenimento in occasione dei festeggiamenti: in questo caso il concerto tenutosi in Cattedrale dalla banda musicale Città di Caltabellotta ed il coro Laudae Choralis. L’arrivo dei tamburinai (in dialetto “tammurinara”) segna l’inizio del triduo festivo del venerdì, sabato, e domenica. Colui che suona il rullante è un componente importante, insieme agli strumenti di percussione, in una banda. Infatti egli da il tempo ed un sentimento unico alle melodie suonate dagli altri. He does the tempo and a unique feeling to the melodies played by the others components.

Tutti i bambini di Caltabellotta, quando c’è la festa, vogliono suonare qualche strumento. Quello più ambito è il tamburino (ben quattro nella foto), poi i piatti, ed infine la tromba! Un’altra reliquia, che ha fatto visita durante le celebrazioni, è quella della Spina Santa, conservata a Sciacca. Secondo la tradizione sarebbe una delle spine della corona data dai Romani a Gesù, prima di crocifiggerlo. La mattina del venerdì i membri del comitato raccolgono i nuovi ex-voto offerti da persone che hanno ricevuto nell’ultimo anno una grazia dopo essersi rivolti in preghiera a Maria SS dei Miracoli e/o il SS Crocifisso. La terza reliquia presente durante la festa e donata alla chiesa di Sant’Agostino di Caltabellotta. Si tratta di un pezzo di una veste di Papa Giovanni Paolo II Karol Wojtyła. Il sabato mattina, od il venerdì pomeriggio a discrezione del comitato organizzatore, vengono preparati i vassoi con gli ex-voto che saranno portati in processione. La processione degli ex-voto è anticipata dai bambini che, accompagnati dai genitori, portano i campanelli che adorneranno le due vare dei simulacri. Quest’anno i tamburi di Buccheri hanno aperto la processione degli ex-voto, gruppo composto da 16 elementi. This year the “Tamburi of Buccheri” opened the ex-voto procession, a group of 16 percussionists.

Le luminarie illuminano la chiesa ed il sagrato di Sant’Agostino per la festa. Esse sono una tradizione molto sentita specialmente nel meridione d’Italia ed accentuano il sentimento di gioia e festa. Luminaria are a very important tradition of Southern Italy since they highlight the feeling of joy and feast.

La santa messa della domenica di festa viene celebrata in presenza delle autorità civili e religiose. Essa è stata concelebrata dagli arcipreti Giuseppe Marciante e Giovanni Mangiapane, quest’ultimo già arciprete di Caltabellotta e cittadino onorario. The holy mass of the festive Sunday is celebrated with the presence of the civilian and religious authorities. It was concelebrated by the prelates Giuseppe Marciante and Giovanni Mangiapane. Nel pomeriggio i portatori ed i membri del comitato preparano la chiesa e la vara che servirà a trasportare la statua della Madonna. Una volta giunta la processione, ha inizio la messa alla cattedrale con il Santissimo Crocifisso sull’altare maggiore. La messa è presieduta dall’arcivescovo Giuseppe Marciante, oltre ai portatori del Crocifisso e della Madonna. Dopo la messa, l’arcivescovo, insieme ai portatori, trasla il Crocifisso sulla vara, pronto per l’imminente incontro, in dialetto ‘ncontru, con la Madre. Con le note di un inno mariano, e gli applausi dei fedeli accorsi, la vergine Maria ritrova il Figlio, come vuole la tradizione, ripetendo il miracolo che avviene per la Pasqua, dove Maria, addolorata, ritrova il Figlio Cristo Risorto. Molto suggestivi sono i passaggi della processione in alcune delle vie più caratteristiche di Caltabellotta. In questo caso siamo in via Botteghelle, una via dove in un passato non molto lontano erano presenti molte botteghe a conduzione familiare, da cui il nome. In this case we are in Via Botteghelle (little shops), where in a not so far past there were many little family-run shops.

Anche del simulacro della Madonna la sua nascita è avvolta un po’ nella leggenda. Si narra che già il tronco di fico da cui fu scolpita mostrava una certa attività supernaturale. Una volta in chiesa, di notte andava a trovare il Crocifisso, lasciando sorpresi i confratelli ed in particolare il loro padre superiore un certo Padre Paolo. Also little is factually known about the statue of the Madonna, since its origin is veiled by the mystery. It is told that the fig log from which it was sculpted showed a certain supernatural activity. Once it was made and located in the church of Saint Augustine, during the nights it used to go find the Crucifix in another church, leaving the brothers surprised, and in particular their superior, a certain Father Paul.

Le case abbarbicate permettono a qualche persona di toccare la vara direttamente dal balcone di casa. Dopo un percorso tra vie molto strette che a malapena permettono il passaggio di una vara, i due simulacri possono ricongiungersi in una delle ultime soste della processione. After an itinerary through very narrow streets that barely let only one statue to pass, the two statues are joined together in one of the last rest stops of the procession.

Dodici sono le fermate complessive effettuate dopo l’inizio della processione, cioè l’incontro, che ricordano luoghi di culto particolarmente importanti o semplicemente dopo un tratto molto faticoso. Qui per esempio siamo dove sorgeva la vecchia chiesa di San Sebastiano, ormai persa nei secoli. A suo ricordo vi è tuttavia una statua del santo. Una particolarità della statua sono i suoi occhi. Ovunque ci si possa mettere quegli occhi danno l’impressione di seguirti senza perderti mai di vista. Inoltre, in base alla posizione che si assume, sembra che la Madonna guardi con sguardo severo, oppure benevolo. A peculiar characteristic of the statue of Mary is in the eyes. Anywhere one can be, those eyes will always give the impression to follow the person, without losing for any moment the sight. Also, depending on the position one assumes, it seems that Mary looks with an inflexible look, or benevolent look.

Rientrati in chiesa, i due simulacri percorrono la navata insieme fino al ridosso dell’altare, in cui verranno riposizionati per continuare a proteggere il popolo di Caltabellotta. Finita la processione e riposizionati i simulacri, i portatori ed i membri del comitato prelevano gli ex-voto per riporli sui vassoi per depositarli fino alla prossima festa. Once the procession has ended and the statues have been repositioned, the bearers and members of the committee take down the ex-voto putting them on the trays. They will be conserved for the next feast.

Il lunedì successivo alla processione viene celebrata la messa di ringraziamento per gli emigrati caltabellottesi, motivo per cui la festa fu spostata dalla quarta domenica di maggio all’ultima domenica di luglio. Ma oggi sono molto meno gli emigrati che ritornano. The monday following the procession it’s celebrated a thanksgiving mass for the citizens of Caltabellotta who have emigrated. They were the reason why the feast was moved from the fourth Sunday in May to the last Sunday in July. Today, however, are very few those people who come back for the feast.

I simulacri vengono spogliati degli ex-voto e dei loro simboli in oro, i quali vengono sostituiti con quelli tradizionali, fino alla prossima festa. The ex-voto and the golden symbols are removed from the statues, substituted with the traditional ones, until the next feast.
